Two Weeks

February 8, 2009 at 12:22 pm | In Life, Update

On January 24, N. awoke with painful contractions, and by 3 pm we were at the hospital. She was far enough along to get an epidural, which relieved her very significant pain, and she labored in relative comfort through the night. Finally by 5 am on the 25th, she began pushing and by 8:30 am, our son C. was born.

These last two weeks have been exhausting, exhilarating, fascinating, and surreal. N. and I were talking yesterday how unreal the whole situation seemed; the thought that we have a son is just too unbelievable. How any experience could be as wonderful as this has been is perhaps the only thing I find more amazing.

I’ve been told by other fathers that the love you have for your children is unsurpassed by any other emotion you’ve ever experienced; it’s been that and more, already. I can only imagine that once it finally hits home that I am a father of another human being, that feeling will grow.
