Mandatory Sunday Update #1

May 4, 2008 at 10:13 pm | In Baby Makin', Life, Our First Home, Update

Alright, the last couple months have been a bit ridiculous as far as my blogging. As you can easily see I haven’t updated since March (that’s getting to be a familiar refrain). So I’ve decided to make Sundays “bloggin’ day” to give me at least some motivation to update on a regular basis.

So, yet again, a lot has happened since my last post. Our offer on a house has been accepted, and we’ve been in escrow for the last 10 days or so. The inspections are mostly completed, and despite finding some roofing issues, the house appears to be in working order. We had a separate roof inspection yesterday, with Efraim, who appears to be a very honest and good roofer. He gave us a very competitive estimate, and with those repairs the roof will likely give us another 5 to 7 years before needing a major overhaul. The home was built in 1987, and has a concrete tile roof, which apparently is a notoriously poorly designed roof in this part of the country. Leaks have been common and our home inspector told us that nearly all of them have needed to be replaced.

Additionally, Nicole and I are trying to get pregnant. We decided to go ahead with IVF, and we’ve been doing the ovarian stimulation injections for the last several days. The egg retrieval will likely be this coming Wednesday, then the transfer will be 5 days later. I’m going to be on service at our downtown hospital this week so timing everything will be a challenge, but I’m sure everything will work out. Despite all the stresses of the last two months, as well as upcoming events (Nicole also has her board exams coming up this summer, and we’d like to try to visit family in Arizona, Connecticut, and Toronto as well), we’re really happy with how everything is going. It’s going to be an exciting time.
