In Death’s Grip

iStock_000003621804XSmall.jpgI feel like my face is about to pop. After several days of malaise and general feverishness, I finally erupted in a storm of nasal congestion that has knocked me on my ass for the last 6 hours or so. I have yet to go more than about 5 hours without ingesting TheraFlu, and right now (sitting in Starbucks) the only thing keeping the mucus in my nose is will power. I had plans for getting all sorts of things done while here; I thought I’d start the tutorial DVD that came with my Photoshop CS3, I thought I might work on learning some Javascript (I’m only in the textbook reading phase at this point), and I had hoped to get some photography done. None of these happened. Instead I’ve been surfing on running websites, checking my email every 12 minutes, and trying not to get snot on my new laptop. I’d say considering the circumstances I’ve been pretty successful at these things; unfortunately none of them were on my agenda for the day.

Nicole will be working tonight at the local psychiatric hospital, one of her moonlighting positions. She doesn’t start until midnight (and she caught Whatever Plague Hath Bedevil Me Now) so she had been sleeping for most of the day. Of course just before I left she wanted to go house-hunting in Solana Beach. Normally I would be quite excited to do this, and would relish the chance (I would even have taken my camera along for the ride). But today I’m not really feeling up to walking far distances and examining the details of houses we cannot yet afford. I’m just feeling too mucus-y and unclean. I’m much happier sitting here in Starbucks, unshowered, smelling of coffee, and with my groin basking in the heat of my laptop computer.
