Wild Days and Nights

October 23, 2007 at 7:34 am | In Life, Reports, Work

It has been an interesting 36 hours to say the least. N. and I arrived from Cleveland after the wedding reception hosted by my mom, coming in about midnight on Sunday night. We had an inkling of things to come when, as we approached San Diego from the east, our airplane’s captain announced that some wildfires were visible off to the south. We had heard on the news before leaving about some fires in Malibu, but those would not have been visible from our vantage point. It wasn’t until the next morning that I discovered, after talking to Nicole at work, that San Diego County was dealing with its own wildfires, which were much larger in scope and impact than the ones in Malibu being over-reported by the national press.

This was the usual Monday night run, our first since the wedding. It’s starting to get cold and dark earlier… I hope I can stick with my runs through the winter. Continue reading Run 10.15.07…

I think I’ve discovered how to load my Garmin maps into my posts. Thanks to the Notions blog from Canada for help with the code! I’m using Ascent to download runs from my Garmin (highly recommended for you Mac users).

We’re Home!

October 11, 2007 at 8:23 pm | In Life, Reports

N and MAfter an amazing few days, N. and I returned home from our honeymoon early this morning. Last weekend we had a perfect ceremony, attended by sixteen of our family members and close friends, with my best friend A. and N.’s sister L. acting as our wedding party. The intimacy of the ceremony made it all the more special; we are so glad that we decided to go through with a ceremony rather than a civil proceeding as we had initially wanted. Over the last few days N. and I have discussed those moments when we we uttered our vows, and they were far more powerful and meaningful than I think we had anticipated. We both had a hard time controlling our tears while we said those important words. Between our emotions and the tears coming from our families and friends, it was certainly an unforgettable moment.

Runs 10.1.07, 10.2.07

October 2, 2007 at 11:21 pm | In Reports, Running, Sports

Yesterday and today were typical, although my parents joined us at Mission Bay yesterday for the weekly Monday Run. They went for a walk while the group did our usual 5 miles. Today was a hill run of sorts, with N., up Moraga Avenue to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. The first mile of the run is straight uphill, probably a 4% grade or so. It then flattens out as you get closer to Clairemont Mesa; the return leg is nice and easy with a steady downhill as you come back toward Balboa Avenue.
