Tecolote Canyon Trail Run

July 31, 2007 at 8:51 pm | In Reports, Running, Sports

N. and I ran on a trail through Tecolote Canyon. It was the first time for either of us on this trail; I don’t think we had any idea what we were in for. I initially came across the trail while surfing around on a computer during one of my moonlighting jobs, where I supervise residents who are seeing their patients in a clinic setting. The trail had multiple advantages, as I could see them at the time: the trailheads were close to home; they seemed to remain near well-populated areas but were down in a canyon, and were probably likely to have stretches of quiet without total isolation; and the length looked to be about 4 to 6 miles one way, which meant I could do anything from a short and quick run to more intense longer runs. After getting home from work, I changed into my gear and convinced Nicole to join me (it didn’t take much effort to convince her to go for a run). Continue reading Tecolote Canyon Trail Run…

Welcome to 2.0

July 27, 2007 at 1:17 am | In Blogging

Palm Tree ClipartHello and welcome! I recently migrated my blog to my own domain, and have moved from Blogger’s posting software to a Wordpress blog that will give me a broader range of options, including having other pages on the site that are in other formats. I’m really excited about two components that I am in the process of setting up currently: the photography page, which replaces HippocratesPhoto, and our wedding page, which I will be using as a resource for our upcoming wedding to distribute information and news to our friends and family. Another exciting option that Wordpress will allow me to create is a community site, that allows users to sign up for their own account, bringing them into a community forum that will allow friends, family, and acquaintances to share photos, stories, and anything else that strikes their fancy. More on that when I have the time (and HTML know-how) to set it up.

She said yes!

July 7, 2007 at 4:23 pm | In Life, Reports

The Traffic Gods were kind and I arrived at the park with plenty of time to spare… maybe too much time. I was a nervous wreck, I thought my intestines were going to tie up in a knot then explode. I found a picnic table that was apart from the one or two small families that were also enjoying the park yesterday. I set up the tablecloth and tried to arrange the wine and cheese without barfing.

Lacking Drive

July 1, 2007 at 11:01 am | In Opinion, Work

Let me make one thing clear before getting too deeply into this: I love my profession. It is difficult to imagine my life if I hadn’t become a doctor. I think my skills and temperament are well suited to the craft. To top it off, I also probably wouldn’t have met my future wife if I had chosen otherwise. There are days however, when I wish I had chosen a different, more easy-going, less responsible tack in life. Sometimes working in a toll booth or even being a traveling itinerant worker has great appeal. This often happens early after waking or as I drive into work. Clearly I hate mornings.
